One of my favorite videos is a tape made from old "reel film" circa 1945. It is of my father and me having a "tea party." It is the only tangible evidence I have of meeting my father for the first time. Having been conceived during the war and with my father on ships throughout the Pacific, we did not "meet” until I was almost 3 years old. Letters from home keep him informed about "his baby girl" and I have all the letters he sent and those he received in a suitcase. I read them sporadically, when in need of some personal solace. Making in home from the war was , indeed , a blessing. He died when I was 16 years old, so I treasure this video above all others.

While the war kept my father from me, his belief in his mission never wavered. The World War II Generation was indeed "the greatest" and in whose debt we should be eternally grateful.

Thanks for sharing your story Mouser-I'm sure that video is one of your most prized possessions. I'm glad you have his letters as well. I'm sorry for your loss at such a young age-he was a hero and a member of a proud era for veterans.

Wonderful!! Thanks so much for sharing! I'm so glad you had those years between 3 and 16! (I only had my father until just before age 4, so I have no memories of him at all.)

I said in my video that those who are away for births, or to see their own child's first smile, steps, etc. are heroes in my eyes because giving up those special, precious moments is a great sacrifice.

You have my thanks for the sacrifices you had to make as small child so that your father could serve his country. I'm glad you have that video. :)
