Anatomical Attachments: Origin: Attaches to the inferior 1/2 of the symphysis pubis and the superior 1/2 of the pubic arch. Insertion: Attaches to the superior part of the medial surface of the tibia distal to the condyle. Action: Flexes and medially rotates the leg and adducts the thigh. This table provides a preferred order to the testing of muscle groups for manual muscle testing. Generally, for bilateral muscle testing, each muscle group is first tested on the right and then the left, prior to proceeding to the next muscle group in the list. Some muscle groups are listed here with anti-gravity testing, but for a weaker Muscle Weakness Diagnosis. Weakness in the PM can be determined with manual muscle strength testing, careful observation of hip alignment during walking, running and at rest as well as other tests. Supporting information can be gained through a detailed history and physical examination for neurological, vascular and orthopedic signs. A groin strain is an injury to the muscle tendon unit that produces pain on palpation of the adductor tendons or its insertion on the pubic bone with or without pain during resisted adduction.[1] Groin muscle strains are encountered more frequently in ice hockey and soccer than other sports. Welcome to A Physical Therapy Toolbox: Manual Muscle Testing. Definition Muscle testing is an attempt to determine a patient's ability to voluntarily contract a specific muscle. (Keep in mind that this does not provide information on the patient's ability to use the muscle in daily activities, or if the muscle interacts with other muscle around Manual Muscle Testing (MMT) - OSU. It is recommended to not use traditional manual muscle testing until approximately age 8 for children. Before that age physical therapists should use functional muscle testing such as pull to stand to assess muscle strength. Manual muscle testing should be completed to
