Energy Psychology

 

 

Energy psychology is a rapidly growing field of psychotherapy and holistic wellness aimed at unlocking and treating the emotional, physical and spiritual aspects of our energy systems. It uses concepts from ancient Eastern practices such as acupuncture and yogic breathing and has been found to be effective in treating emotional trauma, physical pain and stress. The primary tool it uses for working with energy patterns is the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), commonly referred to as tapping.

 

EFT is an offshoot of Thought Field Therapy, developed by Dr. Roger Callahan. Working with neuro-linguistic programming, EFT helps identify and focus energy on the source of a person’s emotional blockages. This allows the individual to heal from past traumas and live a healthy and balanced life.

 

In simplistic terms, the technique can be described as pressing on acupressure points throughout the body while saying affirming statements.

 

Acupressure Points

 

 

In the practice of EFT, there are seven primary acupressure points used to access the body's energy channels. These points are connected to major organs and located along pathways throughout the body. They are known as the Seven Gamut points, and they form part of the original EFT tapping sequence.

 

The acupressure points represent areas where the body's energy gets blocked and are the places where the EFT practitioner guides the patient to direct their attention and energy. When working with EFT, the practitioner applies gentle pressure to the appropriate points while repeating affirmations. This helps to trigger the energy pathways, restore balance and assist the body in healing from emotional and physical trauma.

 

Trauma Healing

 

 

EFT has been found to be effective in treating a wide range of trauma-based issues and conditions, including depression, chronic pain, anxiety, fear, and eating disorders. By releasing the blocked energy in a safe environment, EFT can help the patient to become more grounded, to feel better and to build up the resilience needed to cope with on-going issues.

 

In situations of acute trauma, such as PTSD, EFT can help by providing an outlet, enabling the patient to talk through their experience and gradually release the panic or fear they feel in certain situations. As the patient accesses their emotions and works to release them, they can begin to feel more in control of their lives and experiences.

 

EFT is also effective in treating physical pain due to injury or accident, as it can help to clear the energy pathways, allowing for increased healing and mobility.

 

The primary benefit of EFT is that it helps to evoke a calming response from the mind and body, allowing the patient to live a more balanced and healthier life. When used in combination with other therapies, such as talk therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), it can provide even more effective results.

 

By restoring balance to the body's energy systems, EFT can give individuals the courage to explore and heal old wounds, move beyond fear and limiting beliefs, and face life's challenges with greater confidence and positivity.
