Duane Elgin presents three kinds of arguments, in the 1970s, new, well-known, for voluntary modesty. One kind of moral is the age-old arguments. From time immemorial, people know that man can endure a lot of meaningful hardship and little pointless excess. The fates of the children of noble and affluent parents confirm this. Surplus - to have more than I can enjoy, to care for what to love is scathing and simply vulgar. The coat in the closet belongs to the poor. Perhaps we all know the Bible verse, according to which the camel can more easily pass the needle than the rich into the kingdom of God (Mt 19:24, Mark 10: 25, Lk 18: 25). It is not necessary to divorce: a valid moral argument is that one whose happiness cares to have more can never have enough - and so he condemns himself to eternal dissatisfaction, which others eventually suffer.
