Taylor Hicks will headline Tailgate For Cure, a charity concert and football watch party, Saturday, October 12, 2013, at Oak Mountain Amphitheatre. Funds raised will benefit the Alabama Institute of Medicine (AIM).
Billed as Birmingham’s biggest tailgate party, Tailgate for Cure will feature multiple big screens showing SEC football throughout the day and a live radio remote from WJOX. Other musical performances will include Birmingham-native Sarah Simmons, who starred in the 2013 season of NBC’s The Voice; Tim Hockenberry, a San Francisco-based artist who was a semi-finalist on NBC’s America’s Got Talent; and band Within Reason, winner of the 2013 Grammy Awards’ Gig Of A Lifetime and special musical guest on CW’s One Tree Hill. Fans will have opportunities to meet and greet the artists and former athletes, and a kid zone will feature activities for children.
“Tailgate for Cure is going to be fun for music and football fans alike,” said Tory Minus, vice president of AIM. “We want the community to come out and enjoy Birmingham’s biggest tailgate party and, in the process, support research here in Alabama that holds untold potential for cures to numerous diseases and conditions.”
Tailgate for Cure is part of a coast-to-coast fundraising campaign by AIM, which plans to raise at least $10 million before April 2014. Monies raised will be used to fund doctors, researchers and facilities for regenerative medicine in Alabama. Regenerative medicine focuses on treatment that aims to restore the original function of cells and tissues.
“Since our launch in April, AIM has received tremendous support from people across Alabama and beyond. Our top priority is to fund stem cell research that will ease suffering and save lives,” Minus said.
Tailgate for Cure tickets go on sale Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, at 10 a.m. CDT. Available through Ticketmaster and LiveNation, tickets are $25 for adults and $15 for children (Children ages 10 and under will be admitted free of charge). A family package with two adult tickets and three children’s tickets can be purchased for $70. Various VIP ticket packages are offered at additional price points.
AIM’s mission is to support and advance stem cell research and regenerative medicine under the highest ethical and medical standards for the discovery and development of cures, therapies, diagnostics and research technologies to relieve and provide treatments for people suffering from chronic disease and injury. AIM is a private/public partnership to support regenerative medicine in Alabama, the Southeast, and the United States of America. The talent and technology is in place to foster regenerative medicine into 21st century personalized medicine. When this happens depends on the funding – This is where AIM comes in! Hi Rhonda: Good question. The performance schedule has not been set yet, as it will depend on the football schedule that day, but the estimate from the organizers is late afternoon/early evening. -Taylor Hicks Online Team
