Before the cyclone, India and Pakistan evacuated thousands of people

As some areas of India and Pakistan prepare for an unusually violent cyclone to strike on Thursday evening, tens of thousands have been evacuated.

A cyclone over the Arabian Sea named Biparjoy is expected to make landfall in the Gujarati city of Kutch in western India.

The storm is anticipated to threaten Karachi metropolis and the coast of Sindh province in Pakistan.

India has seen torrential rains and the deaths of seven persons.

According to the Gujarati government, approximately 38,000 residents in its coastal areas have been evacuated to safety. People have been warned for floods and blackouts by the weather office.

Authorities reported that trains in the area have been suspended and that two of the biggest ports in the nation, Kandla and Mundra, have ceased operations.

50 workers from an oil rig off the coast of Gujarat were reportedly evacuated on Tuesday, according to the Indian Coast Guard.

Beach visits have been discouraged, and fisherman have been urged not to go out on the open water.

As Gujarat's coastal regions were devastated by torrential rains and high winds that uprooted trees and caused a wall to fall, three persons died in the Kutch and Rajkot districts.

On Wednesday, Tejas Vaidya, one of our correspondents on the ground, reported high tides in the Dwarka region as the cyclone approached the coast.

Strong waves in Kutch carried numerous tents off the renowned tourist spot Mandvi beach.

According to BBC Gujarati correspondent Roxy Gadkegar, authorities have ordered an evacuation for everyone within 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) of the region.

The army, navy, state and federal aid organizations as well as military teams are assisting with the evacuation efforts.

Heavy rainfall and high tides have also been seen in some locations in the neighboring state of Maharashtra.

Four youngsters who went missing after swimming in the Arabian Sea off the Juhu neighborhood of Mumbai were discovered dead on Monday night, according to the police.

By Wednesday morning, the national disaster management organization in Pakistan had relocated over 65,000 residents from the beaches of Sindh to safer areas.

According to the nation's National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA), the cyclone is only 300 kilometers from the Kati Bandar coastal region.

The Karachi, Hyderabad, Tando Allayar, Shaheed Benazirabad, and Sanghar districts were expected to see heavy rain and squalls, according to the weather office.

Pakistan is still recovering from the disastrous floods of 2022, which inundated major portions of the nation and left about 1,700 people dead.
